 GOING GREEN
Making publications more environment-friendly is a rising concern among publishers. Here are a few ideas that can help you “green up” your print job.
 Ask for FSC Certification – The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) has introduced a certification program aimed at encouraging practices throughout the value chain that bolster responsible forestry practices. McLaren has obtained this certification, enabling us to assure our customers that the paper we use is grown, harvested and manufactured in an environmentally responsible manner.
Choose a Green-Wise Printer – A great deal can be done by your printer to reduce needless waste. For example, McLaren has adopted computer-to-plate (CtP) technology, thereby eliminating a step in the premedia process. By making our shop completely film-free, CtP cuts costs, reduces chemical and film waste and speeds up the production process.
Make it Smaller – Many publishers have found that shrinking the size of their publications by a few centimeters helps them to reduce paper consumption and cut their printing costs. If you do it wisely, you can shrink a publication’s footprint without sacrificing editorial content or advertising revenue.
We are also minimizing our environmental footprint in other ways. Our closed-loop registration guidance system and premedia-generated ink presets enable us to get print jobs running quickly and smoothly, reducing paper and ink waste. We use soya-based inks to reduce environmentally destructive volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions. Our ink-saver computer software prepares your job using under colour removal (UCR) and gray component replacement (GCR) to achieve the optimal total ink coverage for each page using less ink.
